Last spring when I bought my coupe I was no where near current. I buddy
who is a retired 747- DC8- 707 C130 CFI and excellent tailwheel driver
with something over 25000 hrs ferried the airplane down from Maine but
never flew a coupe. My insurance (Avemco) required he get checked out
in the coupe. Local Portland Maine CFI with some coupe experience went
around the patch with Paul to make it legal. Te bottom line
irrespective of experience airplanes are a bit different from model to
model ect. As for the FARs at one time I believe a PP getting a ticket
in a coupe was restricted but not sure it still applies but only a fool
would go jump into an unfamiliar airplane without a solid checkout. I
have lots of commanche and Mooney time but would probably kill myself
in a Bonanza or Viking. Also as far as I know all insurance companies
require a checkride in make and model.
