I had that problem when I first got my Ercoupe. An old mechanic told me to tap the side of the float chamber in the carb, with the handle of a heavy screwdriver. That solved the problem. In the last 3 1/2 years, it has started leaking very few times, and tapping always fixes it. May, or may not work for your particular condition, but worth a try.
