When you look at the way it is attached and the material used it is 
hard to see it as structural. Most of the seat backs are cracked 
because they are not made of heavy enough aluminum. There are plenty 
of airframes that have been modified with bucket seats but no matter 
if it is structural or not you will need a 337 to change it. There 
are two 337's on the Ercoupe web site to use as examples. One is for 
Cessna 150 seats ans the others is for Piper Pacer seats.
