Middletown is a very nice place. The Aeronca clan has a big deal there every other year (it's where Aeroncas were made, and Aeronca is still in business there making parts for airliners).
The Manchester is very nice. Short Wing Piper Club has its convention there 10 years ago, and everyone loved the place. Just a bit old, but very clean, affordable, and VERY good food. Wise move. It may look like I have no idea what I am doing and that is because I don't. I have decided to move the convention 10 miles south to Middletown Regional Airport. There are many reasons for this. One was the deal with the Holiday Inn fell through and the other is the facilities at Middletown will better meet our needs. This is where Skyport is located and a host of other groups that will welcome us and help us have a successful convention. The dates for the Dayton Convention at Middletown Regional Airport are still set for the last weekend in June. 25,26,27,28. The official Hotel is the Manchester Inn that is less than a mile from the airport and I am told is within walking distance. The Ercoupe rate is $55 to $75 a night, ask for Nadine and the Ercoupe rate. The other hotel with special Ercoupe rates is the Dury Inn. That rate is $75 and ask for Kristy King. This hotel is 4 miles away by I75 and there are a couple other hotels by it that the airport has recommended but we don't have any special rates with them. They are the Fairfield Inn, Best Western and Comfort Inn. Details and numbers below. Let continue to use the Bob's sign up web site http://www.lowcountrybilling.com/ercoupedayton2009 and start calling the Hotels. Don't forget to cancel your room at the Holiday Inn if you have already booked there. Say you are with the Ercoupe convention when you call the new hotels. Please also indicate on the sign up site where you are staying. We also have permission to camp on the airfield so indicate on the sign up site if you are camping and if tent or what type RV. We have electricity, water, restroom and shower facilities at this airport. If you are already signed up on the site please change your arrival date and it would be helpful to know if you are coming via Ercoupe, commercial or ground and whether you are coming even if the weather does not permit Ercouping. At this time we are planning the banquet at the airport in the form of a pig roast, grill or catered. I will email the registration form shortly. Dayton International is still the best choice for commercial flights.
