For Sale – Attitude Indicator with an attitude. Removed from my Alon for
being Ugly. This is an RC Allen 3-1/8 inch diameter instrument with a short
case – about 6 inches deep so it fits well in a Coupe instrument panel.
Manufacturer’s P/N RCA 21-1. Manufactured 4-68. It’s been in use in my Alon
since 1983 or so. The blue paint on the “sky” has turned a very interesting
textured brownish color, while the “ground” is still nice and black and
smooth.
It looks sorta like flying at dusk.
Other features: The glass came loose years and years ago and “somebody”
(not me!) very carefully resealed it with silicone sealant. But the glass is
very slightly displaced backward at the top. It’s really not noticeable
unless you look at it. I keep my eyes closed most of the time while I’m
flying
(afraid of heights) so I hardly ever notice it. Then there was a very slight
breach to the factory seal around the front of the case where the seal kind
of gave up the ghost in a place or two. But the high quality black
electrical tape wrapped over the original seal has been going strong for about
25
years now, and as far as I know it doesn’t leak. Or if it does leak, at
least
it doesn't whistle. Oh yeah – the inside of the glass is fogged ever so
slightly, like you see on a lot of these nice old vintage instruments. But
you
can still see through it just fine. It looks sorta like flying at dusk, but
in low visibility conditions.
The really frustrating thing about this attitude indicator is that it works
perfectly. Nice and smooth. No problems. It’s never missed a beat. I
waited years for this thing to die so I could justify buying a nice new one.
But
no. It wouldn’t die. So I just spent $923 on a brand new gyro because the
old one was….well…. ugly. Selling for core value of $100. I gotta get this
thing outta here before the wife finds out about this. If you are interested
contact me off list. I’ll send pictures and you can see this unbelievable
gyro for yourself. But don’t blame me if you put it in your plane and this
ugly thing lasts another hundred years. Best of all, this gyro comes with my
standard warrantee: If it breaks, you get to keep all the pieces.

Best Regards,

Wayne DelRossi
