Your not alone replacing the # 4 cyl on my 85. The compression on 4 was a bit
low compared to the other jugs all were 76/80 or better #4 was a weak 68. It
was leaking past the ex valve as well as past the intake. The engine has about
350 since overhaul. My mechanic is a real knowable guy told me the problem is
#4 tends to run cold at first- receives a lot of cooling being up front- which
causes the valves to not clear properly guides gum up and wear cyl then gets
hot then its downhill. Al is right about how to operate the engine key is not
to supercool the jugs ie don't make quick power adj. Seems there is a little
fix place a small baffel in front of the jug keeps it from overcooling. My jug
was not repairable so just replaced it. new one should be here tues or wed. Got
a good deal from Gibson complete recon yellow tag assembly $625.00.Dealt with
them before and they stand ehind their product. A new jug was $ 803.00
