Hey Guy: I do not know about your FSDO, but mine has told me that an IA can
sign off on minor alterations, i.e. adding an extra instrument like a True
Trac ADI. They have refused to sign minor alterations and told me to do it.

I signed up for info on one at Oshkosh last summer, and Kelly offered me a
chance to buy one at a cost much lower than list this spring. I googled
the model, and Spruce has a page with them listed at $2500
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/rca2600.php

I really wanted to put something like a Dynon or the new Garmin Efis in
the plane and loose all the weight and drag of air-driven gyros and
venturi's. I know that subject has been posted before, and it seems like
getting
installation approval is a dead end. The Aspen looks like an "approved"
alternative, but their paperwork does not list ercoupes. Short of velcroing a
GPS
on the tight panel, This puts the Kelly/RC Allen in the front running for
permanent approved gyro replacement that can fit between the tank and the
panel. They priced it the same as the only other electric alternative.. an
electric driven gyro.

With cost as a prime concern, the air-driven horizon (or looking out the
Canopy!) is still the best way to go. I still need an conventional electric
DG and Electric Turn and bank to get all the venturi's off the plane.

Has anyone else found good electric gyro replacements legal for a ercoupe
other than the portable GPS units?
