Today, I rode with a friend to Red wing airport in his RV-8. I took my Garmin 296, and you all were right. IT has a very nice page with a "DG like" compass rose on it, and I had no trouble navigating from the rear seat of the RV-8. THanks to all who responded, and encouraged me to use my GPS. I do think I will get a vertical compass, just so I have a redundent heading indicator. I truly believe in pilotage and dead reckoning, so most of these aids are just that.back up to good navigation skills(I hope mine are good). Thanks for reading this note. Gary
