Hello group,

I am working on a homebuilt project (V-Witt) which uses a prop hub for a
Continental tapered crank. It has come to my attention that there have been a
number of failures of this type hub due to cracks along the keyway and
splitting in the worst cases. Also the nut seems to have some problems. From
what I have found, most of the problems are seen on Ercoupes with metal props,
and there is speculation that excessive tightening is a precursor to the
cracking. Has anyone experienced this type of problem on their Ercoupe? Is it
that hard to find a good used hub and nut? Are there any suppliers of new hubs
and nuts?

I am also posing these question to the Cessna 120 and 140 groups and the
Aeronca group. I have not heard of this type of problem being "common" on 120s,
140s, Champs or Chiefs. It seems that the majority of the problems show up on
Ercoupes. If it is somewhat frequent or common, just how "frequently" does it
turn up?

Thanks in advance,

Chris
