Ed,
Originally, Ercoupes had small baggage bags behind the seat, which
attached to the seat back and the leading edge of a slanted hat
shelf. The hat shelf was supported by an aluminum cross member that
was located exactly where your "clothes rod" is, across Frame E.
Skyport came out with an STC'd kit to enlarge the baggage compartment
to 9 cubic feet, and many Ercoupes were converted to that. Part of
that conversion was to remove that cross member and relocate it about
20" lower on Frame E to serve as the support for the new baggage
compartment floor. N2522 has the 9 cu. ft. baggage compartment, and
apparently someone put that rod there. It is not needed. But, on the
other hand, I notice that you have bucket seats with no cross member
support going across Frame D. That is an important structural
member. Do you have all the proper paperwork to allow the removal of
the upper seat back support?

<N2522hd.jpg>What is the bar across baggage area for?
Please note: It's N2522H. C model with bucket seats. I don't know if
it has a 337.
Anyone know? Please let me know. Thank you.
