The serial number was 1777. It was registered to KENNETH A HANNUM since
May 2006, and listed as a 415-D.

"...one witness was outside talking with a neighbor when he saw an
Ercoupe 415-D flying southwest."

Witness could tell it was a D model from a distance of 1200' or more? I
don't think so. Had to have looked it up after the fact.
