Hi gang, I have a device for holding my left and/or right side cowls open that I have been using since the late '80's. It is a bungee cord of the proper length. I must admit that I am usually in a no wind situation (in a hangar) when doing a pre-flight. My cowls only go straight up and then don't hinge any further, and I hook one end over the edge of the cowl and the other end to the air intake opening behind the prop. No buying, drilling or riveting. Earl
