Hey Len: In all of the ones I have replaced, the outer housing is held to
the stabilizer with one clamp in the middle. You can remove the fairing in
front of the stabilizer and gain access to the fitting that connects the
flexible housing to the solid one in the fuselage. Taking this fitting lose
may help, but I find that removing the stabilizer/vertical
fin/rudder/elevator as a whole allows access to what you need.
There are four bolts that hold the assembly to the fuselage. Two on
the upper portion of the rear bulkhead, and two through the top of the
stabilizer. The ones through the top of the stabilizer can be removed by using
two 12" extensions (3/8" drive) and a universal with a 7/16" socket on the
end (after removal of the tail cone). I find that by removing the top bolt in
the elevator bell crank and fastening the elevator up with some tape, I can
remove all four bolts that hold the stabilizer assembly in place (of
course I remove the trim wire first). Placing a towel over the tail cone to
protect the finish, I then work the stabilizer assembly forward (it helps to
have the rudders turned to the left or right) and get the rudder bell crank
out of the fuselage, then turn set it on edge on a board I have clamped to
the fuselage. Now you have access to the trim wire housing in the stabilizer
( I recommend replacing it) you can remove it from the elevator, replace
the grommets in the elevator and stabilizer and really lubricate the
housing. Reverse the process to put it all back together. When finished, you
should have no problem getting a new trim wire in place. ( I have found that
because of the coiling of the trim wire it often helps to rotate it while
pushing it through the housing I also grind the end round so it does not hang
up on any little protrusion) .

I have a 47cd that I am trying to replace the trim cable on , the new
cable hangs up somewhere int the elevator and is a bear cat to pull through.
I know that it should slide easily through the channel. None of the info
that I have shows th inside of the elevator and there is no inspection plate
on the elevator. I can use some help. Thanks guys i advance.
