Hello, I need some help.
I've just delivered my wings to an "Ercoupe experienced" repair shop in western New York to be recovered. During the initial inspection at the repair shop we discovered significant corrosion on the lower spar cap to the point where the inspector feels both wings are unsafe (the corrosion had not been detected when the wings were examined by local mechanics). The inspector suggested either replacing both lower spar caps or the entire wings. He also recommended a thorough inspection of the center section before investing any effort in the wings. The fuselage is located where I live in Connecticut, almost 400 miles away, and it is not practical for him to come and inspect the center section. I've learned that Ercoupe experience matters when it comes to inspecting wings and I presume it's even more important when it comes to inspecting center sections. Does anyone know any Ercoupe knowledgeable mechanics near Connecticut that would be able to do a center section inspection? What are my alternatives and possible sources for obtaining replacement lower spar caps? Complete wings? Any other thoughts or ideas? Thank you in advance for your help.
