Just to make it a bit more confusing, I'll throw this out. FAR 43.7 and part 43 appendix A are clear on what is considered preventive maintenance, and who can perform that maintenance and return a certified aircraft to service. Persons holding a Sport Pilot Certificate, per the reg, may not. You must hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate, and even then you can only sign off work on your own (or co-owned) aircraft. I don't know if there are plans to address that or not. Greg
