When you have the SS# removed, you are not charged.  By the way, the airmen
database at FAA.GOV also shows the new date of your certificate.  I guess
the only way to show your original date of issuance would be to send for
your FAA file.  Of course your logbook entries and the endorsements would
also do that.

My neighbor had a similar experience requesting a new plastic certificate.
Request was made Saturday afternoon online and it was in his mailbox on
Thursday.
