The screws & fasteners that came on my 'Coupe are a motley
assortment. It was pointed out to me today that while it is being
repainted is a good time to get that corrected. I can perhaps ask the
AI (who signs off for the painter) to also review these and replace
as necessary. I'm inferring from what I've read on Tech at other
times, that the best thing to do is to use exactly the fastener
called out in the Parts Manual for each spot...yes? Just checking
with you all that there haven't been modern improvements/updates to
the fasteners specified, or any other reason not to follow what's in
the Parts Manual. And, I've been cautioned on other occasions, not
to use stainless steel screws anywhere they are not specified as
original...yes?...which may only be on the hinges because they are
stainless, too. Have I got this correct?
When I was displaying my plane at the huge FedEx maintenance hangar
(those times I flew into LAX), a couple of their senior mechanics
came over and looked my 'Coupe over. One saw that there was
corrosion & paint bubbling starting around a lot of the screws, esp.
around the spark plug fairings. He kindly offered the advice to use
plastic washers between those screws and the aircraft skin. Does
collective Ercoupe experience suggest that's a good idea or a bad idea?
Thanks, everyone!
