Al, I found that you have to cover most of the air inlets when it is cold
. (Not the carb. air inlet) The easiest way is to cover the inlets with strips
of duct tape. Start at the ouside and keep adding strips vertically covering
more of the opening until you get a warmer oil temp. When spring comes you can
remove the strips in reverse order. (Duct tape is acceptable in the Mid West -
or so I've heard)
Last year I noticed ice in the oil breather tube. I think it would be wise to
drill a 1/4 inch vent half way up the tube for pressure relief in case the ice
blocks the tube. My A&P suggested that the hole be placed 9 inches up from the
bottom.
