You make an excellent point about the standard of living change between
1947 and now.  I've long noted the tremendous increase in size of
"starter" houses, the first house most people buy.

 

I think your analysis of the standard of living increase pretty well
justifies the standard inflation calculators numbers that are lower than
what I've figured.

 

With that in mind, if an Ercoupe or Alon Aircoupe were to be newly
manufactured, we'd have to pay the workers the higher wages now normal
to go along with their higher standard of living expectations.  So,
instead of selling the new Coupe for $35,000 as implied by the inflation
calculator, we'd probably have to sell it for $100,000 which is closer
to my original guestimation.  Or, we'd have to manufacture it overseas.

 

Me, I'd like to see manufacturing returned to the U.S.  We've got to
become competitive in manufacturing once again.  JMHO
