The Garmin 296 is an excellent GPS. I was a Garmin rep for J.A Aircenter for many years, and it was a delight to demonstrate its capabilities to prospective buyers at Oshkosh. This was the first model that used the new anti glare screen technology. I spent a lot of time taking people outside and showing the difference in the color screens and comparing it with other models in direct sunlight. The 296 was a clear winner every time. Of course, if the sun strikes the screen at different angles, it wall show some glare, but it was clearly the best by far than any other model. I chose it for my own (no expense to me) and used it until 07, when I was forced to give up flying.
