Yesterday I learned one more thing to add to my pre-flight checklist, that others may wish to consider. All along I've checked that the header tank cap is on tightly. Since Glen's unscheduled landing, I've also looked into the vent hole. But yesterday, holding short for take-off, I saw the vertical shaft of the header tank cap (the gauge part) waggling from side to side. Seems that the vertical gauge part and horizontal cap part screw together, and their connection had come loose. Taxied back, tightened it, all seems to be well now...but that's one more thing I'm going to be checking each time.
