About 3 years ago the cowl tank on my Coupe was all patched up by John Wright, Jr. It's an aluminum one, so it couldn't be rebuilt like the steel ones. Up to now it has been fine. I just had a massive amount of work done under the panel, and now whenever I descend, I smell fuel and there are some traces of blue on the back bottom edge of the tank. When I am climbing or cruising, no problems, no fuel smell. As soon as I level off after descending, no fuel smell. But when the nose is down to descend, there it is.
For all of you guys who have a good mental picture of the plumbing under the cowl, and of the tank its connections, can you think of a spot where it may be leaking? Also, when I'm descending it seems like the heat is much less. I realize the engine is running much more slowly as I descend, but it's hard to believe the air would cool off that quickly. I don't know what that has to do with the fuel smell - perhaps the airflow is changing and it's picking up fuel from a leak somewhere else? I just don't know. I'm trying to figure out where the fuel is coming from before the hassle of yanking out the tank. Help! Thanks, Larry in Missouri N99340
