The FAA has finalized its Sport Pilot Rule changes, that have been
under discussion for the last 18 months or so. Here are a couple of
excerpts relevant to those of us flying our 'Coupes under the Sport
Pilot Rule, &/or to issues discussed on Tech:

"Two commenters wanted the FAA to consider allowing sport pilots to
perform preventive maintenance on aircraft not certificated in the
light-sport category, such as the Ercoupe 415. These comments are
outside the scope of this rulemaking."

"...[T]his rule will increase the maximum altitude at which sport
pilots (or student pilots seeking sport pilot privileges) may fly, up
to a maximum of 10,000 ft MSL or 2,000 ft AGL, whichever is higher."

"These amendments become effective April 2, 2010."

(***Yay! We can go over more mountains now! Anyone from the Western
states want company flying the northern route to Oshkosh this year?***)
