It is only because Fred Weick was trying to eliminate many problems that
aisrplanes /taildreggers) at that time had by introducing the nose wheel and
the forward shifted Center of gravity with it.

That eliminated the ground loop problem. His idea of a safe aircraft was
between others NOT to be it is a tail dragger. Now, a tail dragger in the hands
of a good pilot might be as safe as the nose wheel Ercoupe.

But it was not his design intentions.

That's why. But hey. The example shows that an Ercoupe is good enough to be
even flown as a tail dragger.

I wonder what his X-wind component was, since the rudders are not soo
effective. Can't land that thing crabbed.

I can't believe all the Bad Mouthing that poor Ercoupe is getting - I would
think you guys would be a little more understanding. Some folks just love tail
draggers and if they wanted an Ercoupe that was a tail dragger then I don't see
the big deal. It still flies and may even fly better than some of ours. I am
sure that he put in brakes that controlled one wheel at a time just like a
Cessna - that way he can make turns on the ground. I sort of like the little
thing - as far as I am concerned - to each his own. Jerry in the Great
Northwest

What an abomination! It's a wonder Fred allowed himself to be photographed in
front of it!

Some years back at Oshkosh I saw an Ercoupe that had been converted to a tail
dragger. Does anyone know what happened to that plane?
