Geri,

You should still be able to post messages to the forum. This is an
excellent example of one that should go to the forum. I'm not any kind of
mechanic and must not play one on the Internet.

I'll post this response and hope that others will read and respond to your
questions with more definitive information.

Several 415-C and 415-CD aircraft have gotten field approval for the O-200
engine on 415-C and 415-CD aircraft using this process. I don't see any
copies of the approved form 337 for this on the EOC web page, though.

As far as I know, you should be able to get field approval by citing the
O-200 STC as "approved information" (or some such official phrase). I
**think** that you need to buy the STC to be able to use it for that purpose
- I don't know for sure.

The O-200 STC was written for 415-D models. You DO NOT have to make your
plane into a 415-D, though. You will get your own field approval via a form
337 using that "approved information" as proof of its safety.

It may grease the approval process if you also buy and apply the 1320 pound
gross weight STC. This STC requires that you make all the changes to the
aircraft which would be made for a "D" conversion, but WITHOUT making it a
"D." This keeps the LSA eligibility and you get to legally carry up to 1320
pounds gross weight.

I'd urge you to contact Skyport and discuss the issue with them.

Also, please watch the forum mail for a day or two and you'll most likely
get definitive information from one or more forum members.

And, please, try posting to the forum yourself by sending mail to
[email protected] or (if you are a flyin member) to
[email protected]

We're very happy to help. I predict success!
