My airplane had a Ford alternator when I purchased it.  No 337, no logbook 
entry, just an entry on a bill-of-sale.  It was converted sometime in 1979 as 
best I can tell.  I started having a series of electrical problems shortly 
after I bought it where the main power CB kept popping.  The previous owner 
knew there was a problem, so he replaced the voltage regulator and thought that 
would fix it.  Unfortunately, the original regulator did not have the main bus 
sensing wire connected to the "S" terminal, so it wasn't regulating anything!  
Long story short, I decided to replace the old Ford alternator and Zeftronic 
regulator with a 50-amp Plane Power lightweight alternator and regulator combo. 
 We re-wired the charging system and replaced the ammeter when we installed it. 
 It was an easy install, comes with the STC (which will cost $250 alone) and 
has worked flawlessly.
