Dave - I didn't like the tipping and general unsteadiness when I used a bumper
jack or hydraulic bottle jack. See, it's my body under there and I work better
without an Ercoupe laying on any part of it. So I goes out to my friendly
Harbor Freight store and got a motorcycle jack (seems they're usually on sale
for about $60.00) and got a friend to weld on some square tubing to widen it
just a little and provide the necessary height to get the tire completely off
the floor. I use a 5/8" rod and jack up the gear with support on both sides of
the gear leg and it's steady as a house. I'm going to upload a photo album of
the completed jack and in use. No wise remarks about the paint on my gear that
you see - I have wheel pants and between getting them on and off and rubbing
inside, the paint takes a beating - besides, ya' can't see it anyway! ;-) (and
I'm waiting to prove out my design before I paint the jack, don'tyaknow)
