For me, it was the fact that about a dozen forums I frequent ALL used the reply 
button to reply to the group.  A number of times I have forgotten which forum I 
was on, and inadvertently made a reply to an individual, when I actually 
intended the response to the group.  For me, it is just more comfortable to 
reply to the group, unless I want to reply individually.  Something about old 
dogs and new tricks.
