Should you decide to go with a sun shield, you might consider making 
your own.  I made one out of a piece of fake leather and Velcro that 
works fine for me. The front edges were rolled over and sewn for looks 
and perhaps a bit of structure.  Aside from cost savings, making your 
own allows for experimenting with different geometries to get just what 
you need.  I would for sure not use anything stiff or sharp like metal, 
plastic or even stiff card stock which could be a problem in a crash.   
I would think that thin foam or other fabrics with just the right 
amount of stiffness would also work.
