[ercoupe-tech] Exhaust Wrap?

I have always wanted to reduce the heat on my firewall -it really gets hot with 
the muffler heat shroud only about 1/2" from it.  I bought some exhaust heat 
shroud wrap as used on racing vehicles to put around the heat shroud.  Anybody 
have any experience with it?
