You should place all four hinges on the bottom side of the wing, it gives the least parasite drag. That's the way it is done on my Ercoupe and I would not understand why someone would do it differently. Originally, the wing side of the three outer hinges were attached below the wing surface and the innermost hinge was attached above the wing surface. The aileron side of the hinges were on top of the aileron. We began to question this during reassembly and we checked two other nearby Ercoupes and find that one has all four hinges on the bottom side of the wing, and the other has all four hinges on the top side of the wing- under the fabric. Both have the aileron side placed under the aileron skin, between the frame and the skin. We'd like to do it correctly. How should the aileron hinges be positioned?
