Of the 245 Alons produced at Mcpherson, KS, less than 10 % were not equipped
with rudder pedals, but other options were available such as IFR
instrumentation, Auto Pilot (Brittain), the kiddy seat meant for total
passenger load of the baggage compartment. This load was variable depending on
the weight and balance of individual aircraft. My Alon was so equipped with
only one seat. I flew my then 9 month old Grandson in the compartment ONE time
till I realized that the noise level was to high even for noise canceling
headsets, and that with a car seat installed, the survivability of a rollover
was doubtful. An excellent treatise is "The Ercoupe" by Stanley G. Thomas.
copies show up on the internet from time to time.
