That Alon listed on Ebay and Barnstormers is indeed one of mine. I try to
detail the airplanes I sell as completely and honestly as possible. I would
never intentionally misrepresent any aircraft I am selling. If you read the
details of the ad, you will see I wrote the following:
"This aircraft has the optional “Kiddy Seat” and seatbelt which is limited to
75 pounds but will work for children. Otherwise, use it as your baggage
area."
I feel that quite clearly states the purpose and limitations of the optional
"Kiddy seat", which by the way was a factory option and is on the equipment
list.
As a point of interest, Alon ran full page ads for this aircraft in 1966
showing a mom and dad up front and two small boys in the back "Kiddy Seat".
For my own benefit, after reading the complete ad copy, I would like to know if
anyone else feels I misrepresented this airplane. The complete ad copy is
below. If so, I will certainly be careful not to describe the aircraft this
way again. Your opinions, please.

While not technically a major overhaul, the following work was done
500 hours ago by Universal Aero Engines: new crankcase, new main bearing,
new rod bearings, new rings, new front seal, new gasket set, new exhaust
guides, new rocker bushings, new crankcase gear and new starter clutch.

This is a beautiful, well cared for Alon (Ercoupe). It has lived in Canada
under Canadian registration most if it’s life. Log books are detailed and
impeccable. It is currently going through the FAA conformity inspection and
will be a US registered aircraft very shortly (before it is sold). There is no
damage history in the logs which date back to 1982, the year it was exported to
Canada and Canadian logs were formed. This ship was used by a formation flying
team, Flying Colors, thus the unusual markings on the fuselage. The paint is
beautiful. It shines like the day it left the paint shop. The “Flying Colors”
graphics were done with vinyl so they can be easily removed if that is your
preference. The spring landing gear was the final iteration of the Ercoupe
gear design and make touching down gently incredibly easy. The gear is wider
than earlier Ercoupe gear, offering even better handling in strong crosswinds
(max crosswind
component is 25Kts.!) Unlike the early model Ercoupes, the Alon does not have
the drag inducing venturies to great vacuum. Rather it has a modern vacuum
pump (new 2010) offering the advantage of operating all your vacuum instruments
even when on the ground. A dual beam landing light built into the leading edge
provides amply illumination for nighttime operations even into dark airports.
All the windows are tinted to help keep the cabin cool. The canopy can be
opened in flight up to 100 MPH for the real open cockpit experience. The bucket
seats are adjustable (two positions) to accommodate pilot from 5’2” to 6’2” or
taller. This is a very straight aircraft. Many Ercoupes have deep creases and
dents from being ridden hard and put away wet… not this one. The firewall is
straight as can be, without the buckling seen on many from hard landings. The
panel has all the basic VFR instruments plus an Artificial Horizon, Directional
Gyro, EGT,
MX11 digital com with memory channels, Narco AT150 transponder with an AR 850
encoder, AK-450 ELT with remote head mounted in the panel for easy testing and
a speaker to listen to ATIS while preflighting. A David Clark portable
intercom offers clear communication between pilot and passenger as well as a
PTT switch. A new Concord battery was installed this year as was a new
carburetor. This aircraft has the optional “Kiddy Seat” and seatbelt which is
limited to 75 pounds but will work for children. Otherwise, use it as your
baggage area. This aircraft has rudder pedals so if you are using it for
flight training, no restriction will be placed on your pilots certificate. Dual
courtesy lights help reading charts at night easy. The empty weight is 941 and
the gross weight is 1450, leaving a useful load of 488 pounds. This aircraft
recently flew from New Jersey to Florida burning approximately 5.5 GPH. All
AD’s have been complied with
including SB-32 for corrosion in the center section. No corrosion was found.
Now the negatives… At some point in the past the fuel gauge on the sidepanel
leaked and stained the upholstery near the pilots left leg. The damaged fabric
was removed and replaced. The pictures were taken prior to the new
upholstery. There are a couple of small dings in the leading edge of the
vertical stabilizer, likely from stones thrown back from the propeller. The
upholstery on the bucket seat was damaged at some point and repaired poorly.
There is a small hole in the lower right cowling near the exhaust that was
repaired poorly (see photograph). All the glass is in good condition but
there are a few scratches on the rear windows.
