Sorry for the slow reply...
Yep it's a Stromberg carb.

I tried the method of priming and then pushing in the primer while cranking 
this weekend. Initial results were positive, but I would like to try a few more 
starts, and in colder weather before adoping a new starting proceedure.

On another note has anyone installed Ercoupe Battery Master Relay stc.
This is the one where the battery wire is not routed though the master switch. 
Will this give a noticable imrovement for voltage to the starter?
