Eric4 comes with sensible default values for all configuration items.
However, without proper configuration not all functions are available on
all machines. Therfore, eric shows the configuration dialog the very

Are there settings to be set Eric refuses to run without on some machines?
It doesn refuse to run. There are just some functions, that are not available
without prior configuration. E.g. on Debian/Ubuntu you may need to set the Qt
Tools Postfix in order for the tools to be found (especially, if you have Qt3
and Qt4 installed).

++ e-mail settings as far as I can see. I'd suggest to leave it up to
the user
to find out. Settings requiring special attention complain at runtime
anyways.
Clean alternative would be a wizzard taking the user by the hand - bit of
an overkill.

My new user, starting Eric for the first time, gets confronted

configured yet". To proove that Eric throws up an empty prefs pane.
1. are there initial adjustements necessary to make Eric work?
2. wich one exactly? Or am I expected to click my way through all prefs?
3. click... click... click it away - et voila, Eric is working out of
the box
4. ???
