Thanks Detlev,

That did it.  Option dialog pops up and PyLint works as expected.

Thanks again,
Burt

Hello,

I slightly changed the search algorithm and uploaded a new plug-in version. Please get it and see, if it solves your issue. If not, I have to check on the Mint VM later next week.

Detlev

PS: The built-in checkers do most of the stuff pylint does. Maybe you can use these instead of pylint.

Hello,

I have to check this over here on my Mint virtual machine once I have access to it. Please be patient because it might take a week or two.

Thanks Detlev,
This is where Mint 18.1 installed it:
/usr/bin/pylint

Also I have pylint3 installed here:
/usr/bin/pylint3

Note that the PyLint plugin is Autoactivated and Active just as with 6.08 but eric6 cannot find PyLint..

Great. Please give a hint about where your pylint is installed and it's name. Maybe the search algorithm doesn't pick your pylint correctly.

Thanks,

I'm going to try with the actual latest eric6 (17.06) to see if that makes a difference.  Note that the PyLint plugin has no problem finding the executable, but it doesn't appear in the external tools list for eric6, at least the version that I have currently installed.

If installing the 17.06 version doesn't resolved the issue I'll ask again.

Hello Burt,

please check, if eric can find the pylint executable. In order to do so, please open the external tools dialog (Settings menu) and let eric search for all the tools it should know about. If the search succeeds, the version information as well as the path to the external tool (e.g. pylint) will be shown under the respective topic.

Btw, your eric version is outdated and not supported anymore (at least not by me).

Detlev

Hi,

Just started looking at Eric and it looks quite good there are a number of features that will be quite useful.

Running on Linux Mint 18.1 64 bit with the latest Eric installed.  Pylint is definitely installed and runs fine, I've used it with the WingIDE Python editor with no problems.  And I have both pylint and pylint3 installed.

I'm still working though getting everything setup with eric but I hit a couple of speed bumps.

First is trying to get the PyLint plugin to work and play well.  The plugin installs and shows Activated and Active which should mean that it was able to find the pylint executable from looking at the code for the plugin.

But when I right click on my test Python source code and then select Check>Run PyLint.. I get a message box with the title eric6 - pylint with the message The pylint executable could not be found.

Also in the plugin source directory there appears to be a configuration dialog, but I don't see any way to access it so I'm assuming that if eric was able to run pylint that it may pop that dialog up at that point.

Has anyone else tried the PyLint plugin and had this problem, and if so how did you fix it?

I'll send a separate request for the other problem that I hit.

Thanks,
Burt
