Ok, I am going to publish the full fix for the issue tonight.  I bandaded it
but clearly that is not good enough - although it still seems impossible :)
I just tested that response with the fix and am totally at a loss...

The full fix is to stop using the OS tar and use only the Erlang tar which
will fix the problem.  The code is half done now.
