Dear List,

I have a couple of questions:

Firstly, does anyone have any thoughts on a practical way to work with UTM
coordinates that cross the equator?

My immediate thought would be to arbitrarily adopt SUTM and allow the
coordinates north of the equator to exceed 10 million, but I am concerned
that doing so may produce increasing distortion as the coordinates extend
further into the northern hemisphere. Would this be the case?

Perhaps it would be better to split the data into two tiles -- one north,
the other south of the equator? This seems bad as it means I won't be able
to display the two tiles in the same algorithm. Or maybe I should adopt a
completely different projection, such as Mercator? This seems even worse,
since the coordinates won't be compatible with conventional survey data.

Secondly, (I'm sure this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to
locate it.) Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the best ETM+ format
for "painless" import into ER Mapper 6.2? I may be ordering 20-30 individual
scenes, so would like to expedite the process! Can anyone advise on the
relative merits of Fast-L7 vs. HDF vs. GeoTIFF? I notice that the
documentation for the Landsat 7 Wizard only mentions GeoTIFF, so is this the
preferred format?

TIA

Regards,
