This is advance notice for those of you considering using ER Mapper 6.2
under Windows XP Release Candidate 1:
There is a problem with the path resolution for DLL libraries when running
under Windows XP RC1. The Windows XP RC 1 bug symptom is that ER Mapper can
not open any file other than raw ERS files (so GeoTIFF, ECW, JPEG and other
translated files can not be opened).
We are tracking the XP release candidates. If the problem is not resolved
in the official XP release, a service pack will be issued for ER Mapper once
XP is released.
In the mean time, we recommend that you do not use release candidate
versions of Windows for production work.
If you really need to run ER Mapper under XP RC1, you can workaround this
problem by copying the raster translators into the bin\win32 directory.
As an aside, Windows 2000 is likely to continue to be a better operating
system for high end applications like ER Mapper. Although XP is built on
the NT/2000 kernel, it is tuned more for consumer applications rather than
applications such as ER Mapper that make heavy use of light weight threads,
multi-processors, and large memory usage.
