Dear Ken,
        For each of the directories (Carlin Stuff and Data) and the file
(NED_data), you need to highlight them with only one click, then under File
on the Menu, select Properties (go to the front page of Properties) and
de-select Read-only and select Archive.  If any of these is read-only, as
they would be if you copied them from a CDROM, they will not allow you to
write to it.  It's within your power to change the status of a file or
directory in this manner.  I hope it helps.
