Title: Geotiff file size limit
Yes, 2 Gb is the limit for tiff. No way around it but to supply it in 3 tiles, or subsample.

Subject: Geotiff file size limit

List,

I have a mosaic with 29 Landsat TM5 & 7 as an .alg file, with all layers on one surface. I saved this file out as a geotiff last night, and this morning the message box said that it was complete. The final file size was 4.3GB, but when I tried to open in ER Mapper or ER Viewer I get an error Unable to read header information: ERS raster error: file type unknown, and the file will not open. Does anyone have an idea? I have herd of some type of 2gb limit on tiff files, but I do not know if this is the reason. Before someone asks, why dont I just supply an .ecw file; I am supplying an .ecw file, but the client also wants a geotiff. While we are on the .ecw subject, I did successfully write out an .ecw file of the same image extents, and the final image size was 100mb, and very nice (Love the .ecw!!!).
