WRT the ability of TurboCad 5.1 standard edition to read, edit and 
write files in .dxf format, I can read and edit the test files Alex posted to 
the list.

    A complete list of file-compatibility rules, copied from the help file, is 
attached as ASCII text (3kB).

    I can also read, edit & write .dxf and .dwg files with Adobe Illustrator 9. 
But for CAD this is a fallback option.
