LIAISON & PAO
-------------

There are opportunities for talks at science fiction conventions in San
Diego and Foster City. Both are two weekends from now, and other
activities will probably preclude our participation.

---------
Sean Lynch

Rick announced that his RV will no longer be available for trips to MTA.

TREASURER
---------
Michael Wallis
Chris Winter

Chris reported the current balance in our account, $23.50 higher
than it was at last meeting.

A total of $279.63 was disbursed at this meeting to repay
members for parts and supplies.

CHIEF SCIENTIST
---------------
Kevin Bollinger

Kevin has a vortex tube chiller working, giving him -50 deg. F air
at 6-8 cfm. He expects to receive the remaining extrusions and bring the
filament winder on-line by next month.

FLIGHT CONTROLS
---------------
Bill Clawson

A smaller motor was powered and spun at variable rates by the
new controller circuitry. This will be tried on the flight motors when
snubber diodes are on hand. Further progress awaits the arrival of a new
PC104 module.

PROPELLANTS
-----------
Pierce Nichols

Final construction steps of Pierce's sparger have been postponed
due to work on KISS-III and the new water system at the Ranch.
However, Pierce reported favorable results from tests of his bubbler
subsystem.

REGULATORY
AFFAIRS
-------
Randall Clague

 Nothing to report

SAFETY
------
Dave Masten

 Safety is AOK.

TESTING
-------
Dave Masten

Static tests and flight tests of KISS 3 are deferred pending the
completion of an assured water supply for use in fire suppression.

Construction of a dedicated water supply at the Ranch is
approximately half complete. A work party is scheduled for Saturday.
Many hands make light work...

Gizmocopter
-----------
Bill Clawson

See the entry for Flight Controls, above.

SMARTFLIGHT
-----------
Dave Weinshenker

The PIC Micro intended for telemetry functions is reading and
writing its RAM.

A flight of KISS Beta will be worked in if everything comes
together as hoped.

KISS
----
Mark Blair

The KISS-III vehicle is complete, thanks to outstanding efforts by
the KISS Program Team.

The flight tests are currently scheduled to take place in
November.

Spike
-----
Sean Lynch

Work on this has also been deferred due to higher-priority tasks.
A meeting date will be scheduled on-line.

POGO
----
Dave Masten

Revised quotes for manufacture of the engines are satisfactory.
Code development is still the pacing item.

COMPOSITES
----------
Kevin Bolligner

 As reported under "Chief Scientist".

Meeting #245 adjourned at 8:55 PM. The next meeting will take place on
17 October 2002.

Aftermath
---------
After the meeting, Chris D'Urso joined at the Participating level. Due to
the fact that the IHOP was crowded with patrons, a mere $0.25 in pun
taxes was collected.

Respectfully submitted,

Chris Winter
