Minutes of ERPS General Meeting #248
21 November 2002
The President called the meeting to order at 8:20 PM. Members present
were Kevin Bollinger, Bill Clawson, Nate Dietrich, Chris D'Urso, Rick
Eversole, Robert Lasater, Sean Lynch, David Masten, Alex Mikhailov,
Pierce Nichols, Dan Solvin, and Chris Winter. Randall Clague was in
Oakland to meet Michael Wallis' flight from Toronto.

DOCUMENTATION
-------------
Chris Winter
Chris has checked about half the images for the Rocketdyne
report. The general rule is, if the image is a graph or table, it will be
usable (with perhaps some cleanup); if it's a photograph, it will be too
dark. He should have a complete list ready for the next meeting, at which
time a work session with Rick can be arranged to re-scan the inferior
images.
Kevin presented a copy of a Becco / FMC Hydrogen Peroxide
Rocket Manual to be scanned by Rick at his convenience and included
on the 2003 CD-ROM.
INFOTECH
--------
Sean Lynch
Sean has installed new administration tools on the Cube server
to facilitate maintenance of the ERPS Web site.

Chris Winter
Chris reported the current balance. Dan Solvin received $160 at
this meeting, to allow him to purchase newer and better batteries for
Gizmocopter. He was also reimbursed $39.83 on 19 November for
gasoline.
Chris is working on updating the project expenditure
spreadsheets.
CHIEF SCIENTIST
---------------
Kevin Bollinger
Kevin showed an inertial navigation unit from an F-16 -- one of two
he obtained from Lockheed surplus. These INUs contain laser gyros, but
they probably are not fiber-optic types. Kevin will investigate with a view
to adapting some of these components to our needs.
FLIGHT CONTROLS
---------------
Bill Clawson
Gizmocopter lifted off under computer control, on the tether, but it
was still hard to command it to a specific movement.
PROPELLANTS

The KISS-3 vehicle will be static-tested two Sundays from now in
order to identify the cause of the severe chugging observed during the
latest flight tests. A work session is scheduled for next Sunday at CDI to
install new instrumentation and make other preparations for the static
tests.

chip.

COMPOSITES
----------
Kevin Bollinger
Work continues on Kevin's filament winder.
SPARGER/FF
----------
Pierce Nichols
See the entry for propellants.
NEW BUSINESS
------------
Gerald Nordley was on travel, but had notified us that he's had no
response so far to his e-mail inquiries to the cognizant authorities at
NASA-ARC.
There was some discussion at last meeting about finding a new
restaurant. Chris found a Harry's Hofbrau at a central location in San
Jose (on Saratoga just south of Stevens Creek) and volunteered to
determine if it was suitable.
Meeting #247 adjourned at 8:38 PM. The next meeting will take place on
5 December 2002. Watch the list for location.
Aftermath
---------
Due to a sudden outbreak of total seriousness, the pun barrel was bereft
of increase.
Respectfully submitted,
Chris Winter
