I just finished watching the Colombia Memorial Service. There were several comments that I thought were particularly applicable.
Although this was a sad occasion, I was happy to see that one of the comments associated intelectual activity with heroism. There was a comment at the beginning like "While many of the astronauts do 'exciting' things such as fly fast [military] jets, all of them are really bookworms." Being a General Aviation pilot and flying club officer myself, I noted the comments about the Indian-American astronaut being an avid at "flying small airplanes." Also, earlier coverage had commented on the fact that her small town in India had a flying club, and that she learn to fly as a teenager. I hope that it is well known that many of the payload/mission specialists, while they do not pilot the Shuttle, they *are* GA pilots. The first American female pilot, Sally Ride, started out flying Cessna 150's, just like I did. --- Douglas E Drummond, Secretary of International Flying Club. ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/ _______________________________________________ ERPS-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.erps.org/mailman/listinfo/erps-list
