Yes, any discussion on how to avoid the pitfalls must include money. I'm not in a position to fund the LEO venture at this point, but I will buy a lotto ticket on wednesday, you never can tell ;-)
In the mean time is there a way to send small amounts of money? Perhaps by Paypal?

My thoughts are KIS and small and focus on demonstrating a fully reusable Earth to LEO system. Avoid all secondary agendas by not taking or soliciting any money other than no-strings-attached grants and donations. Do not become another private rocket company tied to venture capital expectations (remember Roton). Do not become another government program with all sorts of compliance paperwork, user requirements, and funding agency politics (remember DCX).
Always ensure that the final decision maker is technically competent as opposed to being a pure manager.

So far so good. :-)
