What kind of price did he quote you? What are the specs on these gyros wrt vibration
and acceleration sensitivity? If they're anywhere as good as he seemed to think, then
$80/axis is not half bad -- check out FOGs sometime for serious sticker shock
(~$1.5k+/axis). Also, I suspect that those stabilizers may be 2-axis, which would mean
you would only need two for complete sensing, or one for the first iteration of Gizmo
& POGO.

I met with a guy from Silicon Sensing Systems a few weeks ago. I couldn't
convince him to give me some samples (heh :-) but he did give an
interesting
presentation about why their gyros are superior to other models out there.
The problem is mostly how these piezo gyros respond to accelleration and
vibration. In the case of murata and other tuning fork style gyros the
results were pretty dramatic. Their ring gyro is very inginious.
Apparently
a British invention but BA couldn't productize it so they started a joint
venture.
In any case, he was aware of the AD devices and wasn't too afraid of them.
Of course he was a sales engineer :-)
The cheapest way to get these SSS devices is to buy Futaba RC Helicopter
stabilizers. Cheapest I saw them was about $80 a piece. Kinda steep when
you
need 3. I'm still persuing an accellerometer-only stabilization package.
All
I care about is aiming the rocket up although it would have been nice to
stop rotation as well.
BTW he could not believe that rocketry was such a big deal here in the US.
Buy black powder rocket motors over the counter in a toy store? Unheard
of!

PS I did get a T-shirt out of the deal but it was a tad small. In Japan
you're either smallish or Sumo-size I suppose :-)
