Minutes of ERPS General Meeting #256
20 March 2003
The President called the meeting to order at 8:37 PM. Members present
were Rick Eversole, David Masten, Julie Porter, Dan Solvin, Adrian
Tymes, Michael Wallis, and Chris Winter. Win Williams, a visitor, also
attended. He joined at Participating level.

Chris will create a directory structure for the 2003 CD-ROM and
coordinate the transfer and fine-tuning of this with Michael.

Michael reported two new participating memberships: Win's (as
noted above) and Roger Gregory. They are working on a small rotary
engine and hope to test it at the Ranch.
The California Space Authority reports on a new test stand at
Edwards AFB.

Michael showed the ISDC paper we will be presenting in San
Jose on Memorial Day weekend. The paper looks fine. Our panel is
scheduled for Saturday at 11 AM. Note that this is also Baycon weekend.
The immediate task in this area is preparation for Space Access
'03, in Scottsdale, AZ from 24-26 April. Anyone having drawings or test
data for KISS-III or -IV should coordinate with Michael.

Win has acquired a portable data acquisition system called a
Databook. He will bring it to the Sunday 1 PM work session at CDI for
evaluation.

KISS
----
Dan Solvin
The diagnostics are coming along.
Final construction of KISS IV awaits the fin can proposal from
Dave W. This in turn depends on the final configuration of the dual
deployment system that he is developing.
Dan needs to tap another port on the engine. An aluminum tube
is also needed.
POGO
----
Dave Masten
Design of a 14-inch I.D. tank is under way. The plan is to spin
this from sheets of annealed 6061 aluminum. The cost for three tanks is
in the neighborhood of $750-$800.
Dave M has gone through many iterations of the design for the
body frame. This A-frame will be approximately 50 inches tall and will
have a diameter of 30 inches at widest point.

Dan will be fabricating a Spike engine for test-stand use.
Steve Traugott is considering the installation of a TIG welder at
CDI.

NEW BUSINESS
------------
Introductions were performed for Win's benefit, and we answered
his questions on machining capabilities, parts sources, etc.
Chris brought up the possible purchase of an IR imaging system
for engine diagnostics. After discussion, he agreed to post a preliminary
proposal to the list for experts to comment on.
Meeting #256 adjourned at 9:43 PM. The next meeting will take place on
3 April 2003 at the Coco's in Sunnyvale. The address is 1305 South Mary
Avenue. The cross street is Fremont; the restaurant is in the southwest
corner, about half a block south of Fremont.
