Just this afternoon I stopped by Austin's and confirmed a reservation
for us tomorrow evening from 7 to 9:30 PM (Austin's closes at 9:30 on
Thursdays).
This is a barbecue place. Its ambience is much like Bennigan's or
Applebee's. There is no closed meeting room, but they will put us in the
area most remote from the bar, which is the last to be seated. The manager,
Richard Clark, obligingly turned off the TV sets, and the area seemed quiet
enough at that time.
Nothing was said about extra fees or obligatory gratuities. He only
asked if we would be buying food. I assured him that would be no problem.
The usual caveat applies, however: on the evening before a holiday, there
is no guarantee that we won't have other groups in that area with us.
Austin's is at 1616 West El Camino Real in Mountain View. (Phone: 650-
969-9191; Web site: http://www.austinsbbq.com/). To get there from 101,
come west on Shoreline Blvd. to El Camino Real. Hang a right and drive past
four streets. Mariposa Avenue is the last of the four; Austin's is on the
far corner of this intersection, on your side of El Camino. The sign is
fairly prominent.
