I managed to send out an email from Empire, NV (near Black Rock) via APRS, but that was sheer luck; I was using a digipeater in California with 50 watts on VHF. I can't get replies to emails that way though. HF or satellite would be a much better solution, but HF won't be happening until either I get enough time and patience to finish learning code, or the US amateur community eliminates the requirement (it's already been eliminated by ITU).
